Vice President of Compliance and Risk

Job Summary

The Vice President of Compliance and Risk leads the organization’s risk management and compliance functions, ensuring adherence to industry regulations and the effective onboarding and monitoring of customers. This role involves managing a team of specialists, overseeing compliance for payment products, and collaborating with senior leadership to address regulatory requirements and audits.

Essential Duties & Other Duties:

  • Participates in the recruitment and selection process to ensure the organization has the necessary talent to accomplish business goals.
  • Promotes an environment that encourages self-motivation, teamwork and collaboration.
  • Develop and deliver reporting to senior leadership and governance committees, as needed
  • Respond to internal and external audits, exams and requests for information. Assist in the evaluation of audit and examination findings/ observations and implementation of corrective action and responses.
  • Oversee Compliance management for all payment products (ACH, Remotely Created Checks and Debit/Credit Card) for mid to enterprise sized merchants operating within heavily regulated industries including collections, payday loans, and money services businesses.
  • Manage a team of Underwriting and Risk specialists to onboard and monitor customers within the policy and risk profile.
  • Formulate and maintain risk management documentation and procedures, including merchant underwriting policy.
  • Manage compliance to Nacha, card brand and network rules.
  • Drive compliance training initiatives for employees, fostering a culture of awareness and adherence to established policies.
  • Educate leadership team and the board of directors on potential impacts of relevant and upcoming changes in both licensing and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee external audits and inquiries, ensuring transparency and cooperation in compliance matters.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 8+ years underwriting experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Financial Institutions.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Understanding and application of Card Brand and network rules, Nacha, UDAAP, FDCPA, FCRA.
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills to build shared agenda and drive results through collaboration
  • ACAMS, APRP, AAP
